The Emerson family, who tragically lost their son Max Emerson in July, is finding solace in their new foundation called “Champions find a way.” Max, a beloved teacher and wrestling coach in Oldham County, Kentucky, was shot and killed in Washington D.C. during a teachers conference. His parents, Shandra and Steve Emerson, are determined to honor their son’s memory and help students facing financial barriers to success.

The foundation aims to “bridge the gap” for students by providing support and resources. Additionally, the Emersons plan to dedicate a special award to a high school wrestler in Kentucky each year. Steve Emerson, a former wrestler himself, noted that wrestling was Max’s passion and they want to continue his legacy by helping others achieve their goals.

The family is currently waiting to be approved for a 501(c)(3) license, which would make their foundation an official nonprofit organization. In the meantime, they have set up a GoFundMe page to collect donations for the foundation.

The Emersons are determined to turn their grief into action and make a positive impact in the lives of students. They believe that their foundation will not only help others but also help them heal from the loss of their son. Shandra Emerson expressed that through the foundation, they feel like Max is still living on.

The community has rallied behind the Emerson family, showing their support and offering partnerships and sponsorships for the foundation. The Emersons hope that their vision and legacy will be embraced by the community and that they can make a lasting impact on the lives of deserving students.

As Thanksgiving approaches, the Emersons face their first holiday without Max. However, they remain steadfast in their commitment to “find a way” and continue their son’s legacy of championing others.
