Kissimmee Man Arrested for Driving Wrong Way on Florida Highway

A 45-year-old man from Kissimmee, Florida, was arrested on Thursday morning after driving in the wrong direction on a highway in Hillsborough County. According to officials from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man, identified as Ramon Luis Rivera, was traveling south in the northbound lanes of SR-589.

The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. when an Acura TL, driven by a 21-year-old man from Trinity, was heading north on the same highway. The two vehicles narrowly avoided a head-on collision, thanks to the quick reflexes of the Acura driver. However, the Acura driver and a 22-year-old female passenger both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Fortunately, Rivera only suffered minor injuries in the incident. After receiving medical treatment, he was arrested by FHP troopers on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) involving serious injury.
