(CNN) – The family of a Black man who died after being tased by an Alabama police officer in July has finally been able to view body camera footage from the incident. After months of fighting for access to the footage, the family attorney, Harry Daniels, described the video as one of the worst examples of police killing he has ever witnessed, comparing it to the George Floyd case.

Jawan Dallas, 36, died after Mobile police officers responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress. When officers tried to apprehend Dallas, he physically resisted and attempted to flee. A struggle ensued, during which officers struck Dallas multiple times with a Taser. The family attorney claims they heard almost 13 Taser cycles. Dallas can be heard begging for his life and saying, “I cannot breathe, help me … I don’t want to be George Floyd.”

Medical personnel were called to the scene and Dallas was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed injuries consistent with Taser applications and blunt force trauma to his back. The cause of death was listed as cardiorespiratory failure due to acute myocardial ischemia and methamphetamine toxicity.

The family attorney hopes that the video will one day be released to the public, but warned that it is a disturbing and unforgettable sight. The case comes at a time when police use of force, particularly against people of color, remains a critical issue across the United States.

Last week, a grand jury declined to indict the two police officers involved in the incident. This decision has sparked outrage and further calls for police reform. The names of the officers have not been publicly released.

The family of Jawan Dallas expressed their devastation and accused the Mobile Police Department of murder. Dallas’ father, Phil Williams, witnessed his son’s death on the video, describing it as one of the worst days of his life. The family is demanding justice for their son and calling for accountability within the police force.
