Four terrorists were killed in a shootout between armed gunmen and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Balochistan’s Kech district on Thursday, according to police. The CTD received information about the presence of terrorists near Pasni Road in Kech district. When law enforcement personnel arrived at the location, they encountered resistance from seven to eight terrorists who engaged in gunfire with the forces. The CTD reported that RPGs and hand grenades were fired during the encounter. The terrorists attempted to flee the scene, but the CTD team pursued them. Four terrorists were killed, while others managed to escape under the cover of night. During the operation, the security forces discovered a cache of weapons, including pistols, grenades, and an improvised explosive device (IED)-fitted motorbike.

The bodies of the four terrorists were sent to Teaching Hospital Turbat for legal procedures, and further investigation is underway, according to the CTD. The Counter Terrorism Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, has been actively conducting intelligence-based operations in Balochistan and neighboring areas to locate and eliminate terrorist elements.

In September, the CTD conducted an operation in the Aghberg area of Quetta, resulting in the elimination of five individuals believed to be terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Pakistan has experienced an increase in terrorist activities in recent months, particularly in KP and Balochistan, after the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November last year.

Just a day before this incident, eight people, including two security personnel and six civilians, were martyred in a series of blasts in North Waziristan, South Waziristan, and Bajaur. In August, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported the highest number of militant attacks in almost nine years.

Efforts by the CTD and other security forces remain ongoing to combat terrorism and maintain peace in the region. The government continues to prioritize the eradication of terrorist elements and the protection of its citizens.
