Man Dies from Burn Injuries after Setting Himself on Fire in Bhubaneswar

A tragic incident occurred in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday when a 40-year-old man, identified as Laxman Pradhan, set himself on fire. Pradhan, a driver, succumbed to his burn injuries while receiving treatment at Capital Hospital on Wednesday.

A CCTV footage surfaced on Wednesday, revealing the horrifying moment when Pradhan set himself ablaze outside his home in Kesura. Fortunately, neighbors rushed to his aid and managed to rescue him before rushing him to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Pradhan had a strained relationship with his wife, leading to frequent quarrels. An officer from the Badagada police station stated, “Prima facie, we have come to know that Pradhan had a strained relationship with his wife. They frequently quarreled.”

This tragic incident sheds light on the growing number of self-immolation cases in recent times. It serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing mental health issues and providing support to individuals facing marital problems or other emotional challenges.

Self-immolation is a disturbing trend that has been witnessed in various parts of the country. Just recently, a man in Mumbai attacked another individual with a stick and attempted to set him on fire, believing that the victim had been stealing clothes he collected. The suspect has been arrested and will appear in court soon.

In another incident, a 27-year-old man named Krishna Bhalerao set himself on fire during a protest demanding reservation for the Maratha community in education and employment. He is currently battling for his life with severe burn injuries and is receiving treatment at Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai.

Additionally, a fire broke out in a government building in Vadodara, allegedly set by a youth seeking revenge for a past humiliation. The suspect, who had previously targeted the building during Navratri, was identified and detained by the police.

These incidents highlight the need for increased awareness and support for mental health issues, as well as the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means. It is crucial for society to come together and address the underlying causes of such extreme actions to prevent further loss of life.
