Two individuals, including a 16-year-old girl, were injured in an incident caused by an electrical short circuit at a flower shop on Mada Street in Poompuhar Nagar, Tiruvannamalai town. The incident occurred during the famous temple car festival on Thursday evening.
The injured individuals have been identified as M. Bhuvaneshwari, a 16-year-old resident of Kilnachipattu village, and D. Kalaiarasi, a 62-year-old resident of Vanniyakula Street in Tiruvannamalai town. The incident took place at approximately 5:45 p.m.

According to K. Karthikeyan, the SP (Tiruvannamalai), the power supply along the car procession route had been cut off. The short circuit was triggered by an electrical malfunction in a UPS device at a flower shop along the route. Normalcy has since been restored.
Both injured individuals were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital located on the outskirts of town. Bhuvaneshwari did not sustain any external injuries, while Kalaiarasi, who suffered wounds, required surgery. Fortunately, the doctors have stated that their condition is stable.
S. Hariharan, the Dean of the hospital, reported that the 16-year-old girl was admitted at 6:08 p.m., while the other person was admitted at 6:56 p.m. Both individuals suffered electric shocks.
It is unfortunate that such an incident occurred during the temple car festival, which is a highly anticipated and celebrated event. The festival involves the procession of elaborately decorated chariots carrying deities through the streets. However, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring electrical safety measures, especially during crowded events.
