Third-party presidential candidate Cornel West has condemned the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, comparing it to genocide. West made these remarks during an interview on the “CUOMO” show. He stated that the ongoing conflict in Gaza is a “genocidal attack,” with nearly 7,000 children already killed in less than 45 days. West dismisses any justifications for the violence, calling them rationalizations.
This comes as Israel and Hamas reached a deal for the release of approximately 50 hostages, which prompted a four-day ceasefire. The month-long war began when Hamas militants entered Israel and killed over 1,400 people. In response, Israel initiated airstrikes on Gaza and later launched a ground invasion. Israel claims that Al-Shifa Hospital, which they reached last week, is being used as a Hamas command and control center. Hamas, however, denies these allegations.

Israel recently released photos and videos showing weapons stored in the hospital, a tunnel shaft on the hospital grounds, and a blast door leading to a tunnel. The ministry does not differentiate between civilians and militants, but around two-thirds of the casualties have been identified as women and minors. Israel asserts that thousands of Hamas militants have been killed.
West acknowledges that Hamas was wrong to attack Israel but argues that their actions are a result of their suffering. He criticizes the lack of attention Palestinian children receive from both the U.S. and Israeli governments. The conflict has sparked major protests worldwide, including on college campuses in the United States. Aid organizations have also called for a ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.
West, along with others, has called on Israel to implement a ceasefire. He emphasizes the need to address the larger structural and institutional realities of the occupation that has lasted since 1948. West compares the Palestinian situation to that of Native Americans, highlighting the historical injustices faced by both groups.
