Tamarac Shooting Leaves Car Wash Employee Dead, Suspect Identified as Damion Dawkins

TAMARAC, Fla. – Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office in Florida have identified a suspect in the shooting and killing of a car wash employee at a warehouse in Tamarac. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Tamarac Commerce Center on Nob Hill Road.

Authorities received a 911 call reporting the shooting just before 2 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies found a man with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. The victim’s identity has not been released due to Marcy’s Law, which allows victims’ families to keep their information private.

Deputies swiftly secured the area and apprehended the shooter, identified as 37-year-old Damion Dawkins. He was taken into custody without incident. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown at this time.

The shooting occurred at a warehouse owned by Sonny’s Carwash Factory, and employees were seen leaving the premises as law enforcement focused their attention on the location. Sonny’s Carwash Factory released a statement expressing shock and sadness over the tragic incident. They are cooperating fully with the investigation and expressed gratitude towards the Broward Sheriff’s Office for their swift action.

BSO’s homicide detectives are currently investigating the shooting, working to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. Dawkins is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail, facing one count of premeditated murder.
