MIDDLETOWN, Ind. – A woman from Middletown is facing charges after allegedly threatening an off-duty police sergeant at a local Dollar General store. Misty Rae Stewart, 34, reportedly told the sergeant that she was going to shoot him, according to court documents.

The incident took place on September 24, around 9:45 p.m., when the sergeant’s spouse made an initial report to emergency services over the phone. The sergeant’s wife stated that Stewart threatened to buy a gun and shoot everyone who “disrespected” her, including the sergeant.

Investigators were able to speak with Stewart, who was outside the store helping push carts. They asked her about the threatening claims, to which Stewart claimed that she was upset because the off-duty sergeant didn’t acknowledge her a few days earlier when she saw him at a gas station.

Stewart stated that she was “venting” and jokingly said she wanted to buy a gun and shoot the sergeant. Investigators recorded part of the interaction where Stewart admitted to making the threatening comments. She also went off-topic and talked about incidents unrelated to the current report.

According to court records, Stewart admitted to making the comments because the sergeant “treats her like trash.” On November 8, she was charged with one count of intimidation, a Level 6 felony. An initial hearing has been scheduled for November 30 at 2:45 p.m.

It is important to note that the charges against Stewart are allegations, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
