NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Multiple middle school administrators have been relocated following allegations of attending a school basketball game while intoxicated, as reported by a spokesperson for the school system. The head principal and three assistant principals of New Providence Middle School were removed from their positions after an incident at a basketball game on November 9, according to a letter sent to families by Dr. Schanda Doughy, the chief academic officer for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

The letter explained that the administrators did not arrive at the start of the game but joined later while it was already in progress. Witnesses claimed that their behavior and interactions suggested they had consumed alcohol or were under its influence. Consequently, the school system conducted an investigation and decided to relieve the administrators of their duties based on evidence and witness testimonies.

The letter stated, “Following witness statements, interviews with the school administrators, and additional evidence, District leadership has made the immediate decision to remove the current leadership at New Providence Middle due to their inappropriate conduct as educators, consuming alcohol prior to returning to school grounds and in the presence of students, and neglecting their responsibilities.”

The administrators identified were Principal Richard Frost, Assistant Principals Megan Groene, Kelli Lorton, and Taylor Massie. Letters of reprimand were issued, recommending a one-day suspension for each individual and reassignment to a certified teaching position for which they are qualified and licensed, effective from December 1.

This week, the principal and three assistant principal positions will be posted, and the school system will begin the process of hiring a new leader for New Providence.

The incident has raised concerns among parents and community members about the behavior and professionalism of school administrators. The school system aims to address these concerns promptly and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
