Man Found Dead in Randolph County: Preston Higgins Victim of Murder, Dallas Bryant Arrested

ELKINS, W.Va (WDTV) – New information has emerged in a murder case that occurred in Randolph County earlier this month, according to court documents. West Virginia State Police troopers were called to a residence on Ward Rd. in Elkins on November 13 after a man reported not hearing from or seeing his cousin for a few days. The caller mentioned finding bullets on the floor inside the house, as stated in a criminal complaint.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered the victim, identified as Preston Higgins, lying on his back with a gunshot wound to the chest. Investigations revealed video footage from a liquor store in Elkins, which captured Higgins and Dallas Bryant, aged 69, together on November 8 at 3:50 p.m.

Troopers conducted interviews and Bryant claimed that there were no other individuals present at the victim’s home during the incident. Bryant further stated that a fight had taken place in the parking lot, involving a struggle over a gun. He admitted to blacking out during the altercation and expressed that if he had regained consciousness and acquired the gun, he would have shot the victim.

According to the criminal complaint, Bryant also mentioned seeing the victim and the gun as he retrieved his truck keys to leave in daylight. Subsequently, Bryant allegedly took the gun and discarded it over a guardrail along US 33.

Bryant has been arrested and charged with murder. He is currently being held without bail at Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

The case continues to unfold as troopers gather evidence and conduct further investigations. The motive behind the crime and any additional details have yet to be disclosed. The West Virginia State Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
