Man Dies of Self-Immolation Over Family Dispute in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Nov 22 (IANS) A 34-year-old man tragically lost his life after setting himself on fire in Keshura, a village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The deceased, identified as Laxman Pradhan, worked as a driver. According to reports, Laxman’s brother filed a complaint with the Badagada police, claiming that Laxman had poured a flammable substance on himself before igniting it on Tuesday evening. Laxman suffered severe burn injuries and despite receiving treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Subhanarayan Muduli, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zone IV, stated that the police are currently reviewing CCTV footage that allegedly shows Laxman setting himself ablaze. Additionally, authorities have been interrogating family members, eyewitnesses, and villagers to understand the reasons behind Laxman’s tragic act.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Laxman was dealing with tensions within his family, which led him to take such a drastic step. There are unverified reports that Laxman had sold some of his land properties and squandered the entire amount without providing any financial support to his family. However, the police are currently verifying the authenticity of these claims.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are actively investigating the matter. The tragic incident has left the community in shock and disbelief, as they struggle to comprehend the reasons behind Laxman’s extreme action.
