Brooksville Man Arrested After Body Found Near Dollar General Store

A man from Brooksville, Florida, was arrested on Tuesday after a dead body was discovered near a Dollar General store. Deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office were called to the store on Cortez Boulevard at around 3:30 p.m. following a report of a suspicious person. The 911 caller also informed deputies that they had found a body on a dead-end road behind the Dollar General.

Fire officials confirmed that the body was in the early stages of decomposition, leading them to believe that the person had been murdered. The deceased individual has been identified, and a person of interest in their death has also been named. R. W. Resca Jr., a 53-year-old man, confessed to the murder and admitted to dumping the body, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation revealed the incident to be isolated and domestic in nature, assuring the community that there is no further threat. In a news release, they stated, “there is no threat to the community.”

R. W. Resca Jr. has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held without bond at the Hernando County Jail.
