Antonio Morales, 43, Succumbs to Injuries in Charlotte Pedestrian Crash

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The incident occurred on Monday, November 6, in the 5800 block of South Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Responding to a distress call, CMPD officers arrived at the scene to find a male pedestrian gravely injured in the roadway. Simultaneously, a Jeep Compass and its driver, Jenna Whalen, were located in a nearby parking lot. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) quickly transported the injured pedestrian, identified as Antonio Morales, to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives, in the course of their investigation, concluded that the accident unfolded as Whalen, 27, was executing a right turn onto South Boulevard from the parking lot. Tragically, at that moment, Morales, 43, stepped into the path of the Jeep and was struck. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Morales succumbed to his injuries on Monday, November 13.

Authorities have ruled out both impairment and speed as contributing factors in the accident. It is believed that Whalen was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and she was not driving above the speed limit.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. No charges have been filed against Whalen at this time.
