Initially, the incident was registered as a road accident case on November 16, with police assuming that Krishnappa had fallen off his scooter. However, his son, Satish Kumar, suspected foul play and reviewed the CCTV footage of their house. To his horror, he discovered that his father had been involved in an argument and assaulted by another person. Based on the footage, Vyalikaval police registered a murder case on November 17.

CCTV grabs from the locality helped identify the accused as 35-year-old Sarfaraz Khan, a welder-cum-mechanic. Khan, who had recently moved to the RT Nagar area, frequently visited Palace Guttahalli to meet his friends. On the night of November 15, Khan collided with Krishnappa’s scooter while riding towards Palace Guttahalli. Enraged by the reprimand, Khan hit Krishnappa with a stone and continued to assault him. Despite Ratan, one of Khan’s friends, attempting to intervene, the attack continued. After Krishnappa collapsed on the road, Khan and his accomplice fled the scene.

The police were alerted by a passerby, and Krishnappa was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, his injuries were severe, and he was later transferred to Mahaveer Jain hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Initially, the police had categorized the incident as a “self-accident” and cited the absence of a helmet as a contributing factor. It was only due to Satish Kumar’s investigation of the CCTV footage that Khan’s involvement was uncovered. The police have vowed to take swift action, stating that they will open a rowdy sheet against Khan.
