A 65-year-old woman, identified as Darlene Denson-Simmons, tragically lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash that took place on Sunday afternoon in Bear, Delaware. The incident also left two others injured.
Denson-Simmons was a passenger in a 2017 Toyota RAV-4 traveling westbound on Pulaski Highway (Route 40) towards the intersection with Bear Christiana Road (Route 7). At around 4:15 p.m., as the RAV-4 driver crossed the intersection, a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer turned left into their path. The RAV-4 collided with the Trailblazer and was subsequently rear-ended by a 2011 Nissan Altima that was following behind.

According to the Delaware State Police, both the RAV-4 and Altima had a green light at the time of the accident. However, the Trailblazer driver turned left on a red arrow, causing the collision. The impact resulted in serious injuries for the 61-year-old Trailblazer driver, who was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, no one in the Altima sustained any injuries.
Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene and transported both occupants of the RAV-4 to the hospital. Sadly, Denson-Simmons succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while the 60-year-old driver received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
