A 35-year-old Trinamool Congress worker was fatally shot by unidentified individuals in front of his house in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The victim, Vicky Yadav, was targeted in the Purani Talab area of Ward No 17 of Bhatpara.
Eyewitnesses reported that Yadav was shot multiple times at close range by assailants on a motorcycle who quickly fled the scene. Yadav was rushed to Bhatpara State General Hospital in critical condition before being transferred to a private hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Local sources revealed that Yadav was an active member of the Trinamool Congress party and had gained prominence during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections when houses belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were vandalized in the area. He was also said to have close ties to Pawan Singh, the son of Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh.
According to witnesses, three men on a motorcycle approached Yadav and inquired about his identity. Once he confirmed his name, the attackers opened fire, hitting him in the hand, leg, and back. The police have launched a murder investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage and statements from eyewitnesses.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, Leader of Opposition Suvendhu Adhikari criticized the recent surge in violent incidents, including shootings and bombings. Adhikari highlighted the alarming frequency of crimes such as murder, robbery, violence against women, and political assassinations, emphasizing that even minors were not exempt from such acts.
Adhikari also criticized the state’s law enforcement, suggesting that officials responsible for curbing criminal activities were preoccupied with serving the police minister as domestic staff. He pointed out the irony of police officers using public funds to distribute food packets at the Police Minister’s house during the Kali Puja festival.

The police have not disclosed any specific leads regarding the motive behind Yadav’s murder but suspect personal enmity may have played a role. They remain hopeful of apprehending the culprits soon.
