RANCHO CORDOVA — A 24-year-old woman, KyrieAnna Liles, is facing charges of attempted murder of police officers after being shot by police in Rancho Cordova over the weekend.

Jacob Perkins, who rents a room from the suspect, expressed his concerns, saying, “I had a feeling that something was going to happen. I just didn’t know what or how.”

The incident began on Monday morning when a call was made about Liles attempting to break into a home on Augibi Way while wielding a butcher knife. Fortunately, her attempts were unsuccessful, and no one inside the home was harmed.

Three officers arrived at the scene and confronted Liles, who was sitting in a parked car on the driveway of her home on Malaga Way. In response, two officers fired their guns, with one bullet striking Liles in the arm. Perkins claimed that Liles had threatened to stab a police officer with the knife.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office could not confirm the details of the threat or how Liles had confronted the officers. Nevertheless, Liles now faces charges of attempted murder against them.

Witness Maria Kelly, who lives across the street, described the sudden gunfire: “All of a sudden, there were like four gunshots.” Sergeant Amar Gandhi from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office explained that law enforcement’s response is based on a suspect’s actions. He emphasized, “If you have a knife, you can close that distance within seven yards before I can even have a gun out.”

Kelly, who had noticed police activity at the suspect’s home in the past, expressed shock at the incident happening on their typically quiet street. She also suspected drug-related activities occurring at the residence.

Following the shooting on Malaga Way, Liles led the police on a chase before eventually surrendering at the Mather Field Light Rail Station. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, and more details are expected to emerge once the body camera footage is released.

Liles is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Jail and is scheduled to make her initial court appearance on Wednesday.
