24-Year-Old International Student Gurvinder Nath Killed in Deadly Carjacking in Mississauga

A “young person” has been arrested and charged by Peel police in connection with a fatal carjacking that resulted in the death of a 24-year-old international student who was delivering food in Mississauga. The tragic incident occurred on July 9 at approximately 2:10 a.m. in the Britannia and Creditview roads area. The victim, Gurvinder Nath from Brampton, Ontario, was ambushed by unknown suspects when he arrived at the delivery location. A fight broke out as the suspects attempted to steal his vehicle.

Inspector Phil King, from Peel Regional Police’s Homicide Bureau, stated in a July update that investigators believed the food order was a lure to bring the driver to that specific area. After the altercation, the suspects fled the scene in Nath’s vehicle, leaving him with life-threatening injuries on the side of the road. Witnesses who came to his aid immediately called for assistance, and he was rushed to a trauma center. Tragically, Nath succumbed to his injuries on July 14.

Hours after the attack, Nath’s abandoned vehicle was discovered in the Old Creditview and Old Derry roads vicinity, less than five kilometers away from the crime scene. On Wednesday, Peel police apprehended a young person in connection with the homicide. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused cannot be identified. They are now facing a second-degree murder charge.

Nath arrived in Canada from India in July 2021 with aspirations of opening his own business, according to friends and family who spoke to CTV News Toronto. Balram Krishan, the victim’s cousin, expressed his grief, stating, “He was innocent, he was just delivering pizza when random people hit him on his head.”

The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, and Peel police are urging anyone with information or video footage to contact the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-2121, extension 3205. Alternatively, they can provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
