The Louisville Metro Police Department has made public the investigative file on the mass shooting that took place at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville. The announcement was made by LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel and Mayor Craig Greenberg, who declared the investigation officially closed.
While acknowledging the incident’s significant public interest, Gwinn-Villaroel emphasized the department’s priority in supporting the affected families, bank employees, officers, and community members. She stated that the commitment to serve and protect does not waver once an event concludes, and the department remains dedicated to providing resources and assistance to citizens in need.

The released file contains information about the shooting, as well as notes written by the shooter. On April 10, 2023, an employee of the bank entered a boardroom meeting and opened fire with an assault rifle. The attack claimed the lives of five individuals and left several others injured. All five victims were identified as employees of Old National Bank: Tommy Elliott, Jim Tutt, Josh Barrick, Juliana Farmer, and Deana Eckert.
Among the injured were three LMPD officers, including Nickolas Wilt, who suffered critical injuries after being shot in the head while responding to the scene. Despite surviving, Officer Wilt experienced long-lasting effects from the incident.
The shooter hid behind a column in the office building and awaited the arrival of the police. Body camera footage revealed that as the officers approached, the shooter began firing at them. Officer Wilt and Officer Corey “CJ” Galloway were the first to respond, with Officer Wilt having recently graduated from the police academy. Other officers used their cars as shields and themselves as distractions to stop the shooter’s gunfire. The situation ended when Officer Galloway fatally shot the suspect.
The LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit received a findings letter from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, stating that Officer Galloway’s actions were justifiable and not criminal according to Kentucky Revised Statutes.

During the incident, multiple 911 calls were made, with callers uncertain about the shooter’s location within the building. One call came from the shooter’s mother, who expressed concern that her son was heading to the bank with a firearm. Investigators later discovered that the shooter’s roommate had also alerted his mother about the situation.
