Two Construction Workers Killed and Seven Injured in Convention Centre Collapse: Bablu and Sunil Identified as Deceased

Two construction workers were killed and seven others were injured when the roof of an under-construction convention centre collapsed in Moinabad, Hyderabad on Monday evening. The injured workers were immediately rushed to nearby private hospitals and are said to be in stable condition.

The tragic accident occurred at Surangal village in Moinabad mandal. The property owners had commissioned a functions hall-cum-convention centre near a private indoor stadium. According to Venkat Ranga, an inspector from Moinabad, the workers were attempting to construct a high roof without any supporting pillars, relying solely on an aluminium support frame. As the work was still in progress, the roof and a side wall suddenly caved in, trapping the workers beneath the rubble.

At the time of the accident, there were a total of 14 workers present at the construction site. Two workers involved in welding and construction work fell from the collapsing roof and sustained severe head injuries, resulting in their immediate deaths. Additionally, seven other workers were injured as debris fell on them. Fortunately, the remaining workers managed to escape unharmed.

All of the victims are migrant workers from different states. The deceased workers have been identified as Bablu, 35, from West Bengal, and Sunil, 36, from Bihar. The police have identified one of the owners of the convention centre as Srinivas. The bodies of the two victims were retrieved from the rubble with the assistance of the Disaster Response Force (DRF) and have been sent to Chevella government hospital for postmortem examination.

The police have informed the family members of the deceased about the tragic accident. A case has been registered under Sections 304-a (causing death due to a rash act) and 337 (causing injuries due to a rash or negligent act) of the Indian Penal Code. This incident once again highlights the importance of ensuring proper safety measures are followed at construction sites to prevent such accidents and protect the lives of workers.
