Three Dead and One in Critical Condition After Shooting in Custer County: Victim Names Released

CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. — A tragic shooting in Custer County on Monday afternoon has left three people dead and one person in critical condition. The incident occurred at 173 Rocky Ridge Road, located northeast of Westcliffe in unincorporated Custer County.

Authorities from the Custer County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene around 1 p.m. after receiving reports of a property dispute between neighbors that had escalated into a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered four individuals near the property line in a wooded area. Unfortunately, three individuals, two men, and one woman, succumbed to their injuries. Another woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The exact number of people involved in the dispute remains unclear at this time. However, it has been confirmed that a surveyor was present at the property line with the group when the shooting occurred. Thankfully, he managed to escape unharmed.

The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Hanme K. Clark. He was last seen driving a white Ram 1500 pickup truck with a topper and Colorado license plate BHLK27. The sheriff’s office believes Clark is now in a different city, although the specific location has not been disclosed.

Following the incident, nearby residents were placed under a shelter-in-place alert, which was lifted after six hours at 8 p.m. To ensure the safety of residents, an alert system called Everbridge was utilized.

The Custer and Fremont County Everbridge website allows residents to sign up for alerts and receive notifications regarding emergencies and critical incidents.

The community is in shock and mourning following this senseless act of violence. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to apprehend the suspect and bring justice to the victims and their families.
