Buqa, originally from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, leaves behind two daughters aged 25 and 20, as well as two sons aged 25 and 27. He joined the police force on September 9, 1993, and was promoted to the rank of Captain on December 1, 2018, at the Table View Police Station. Prior to that, he had worked at various police stations in Centane, Butterworth, and Cofimvaba. Buqa held a National Diploma in Police Management (1999) and Honours Baccalaureus Artium in Police Science (2001).
Table View police spokesperson, Capt Adriana Chandler, described Buqa as a quiet man with a commanding presence. Colleagues are currently planning a memorial service, while the funeral arrangements will take place in the Eastern Cape.
