Officials have revealed that Martinez had a 20-ton shop press in his apartment, which was being used to manufacture fentanyl bricks. He has been charged with the intent to distribute fentanyl and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The investigation leading to Martinez’s arrest began in September 2023 when the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force was called in to investigate a fatal overdose.

During the investigation, numerous counterfeit M30 Oxycodone pills believed to contain fentanyl were discovered at the scene. Martinez was identified as the individual who had sold fentanyl to the deceased victim’s dealer.

Martinez was eventually located on November 16 while traveling from California to Oregon. Law enforcement agents followed his vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in Gladstone. A K-9 sweep of Martinez’s car led to the discovery of multiple concealed packages containing over 1,000 grams of compressed fentanyl.

Later that same day, a federal search warrant was executed at Martinez’s apartment in Gladstone, where a fentanyl manufacturing and distribution operation was uncovered. Along with additional quantities of fentanyl, authorities seized a 20-ton shop press used for producing fentanyl bricks, 10 handguns, an AR-15-style assault rifle, ammunition, and other materials associated with drug trafficking.

Martinez made his initial appearance in federal court on Monday before a U.S. Magistrate Judge.

The arrest and charges against Martinez highlight the ongoing problem of drug trafficking and the dangers posed by the distribution of fentanyl. The authorities’ efforts to dismantle such operations are crucial in preventing further overdoses and protecting communities from the devastating impacts of illicit drugs.
