Sachin Hawkins, a 19-year-old Freeport native from Long Island, New York, stabbed to death in the United Kingdom by housemate Syed Hussain-Kazi

Nineteen-year-old Sachin Hawkins, a native of Freeport, Long Island, was tragically stabbed to death last week in the United Kingdom by his housemate, Syed Hussain-Kazi, aged 24. The incident occurred in the kitchen of their shared residence.

Hawkins, who was born in the UK but moved to the States at a young age, had graduated from Freeport High School in 2022 before moving to England to pursue his studies at the University of Hull. The university, located in Yorkshire, is a renowned public research institution.

According to reports, on November 15, 2023, Hawkins was fatally stabbed by Hussain-Kazi. The exact circumstances leading up to the murder remain unclear. Responding to reports of a stabbing, Humberside Police found Hawkins bleeding from a knife wound. He was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended and charged with murder. The police have yet to determine the motive behind the attack.

The Freeport community is devastated by the loss of Sachin Hawkins. Friends and family are left searching for answers as to why he was targeted by his housemate. Hawkins’ mother has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to bring her son’s body back to the United States. She expressed her bewilderment, questioning what triggered the violent act and why her son was the victim.

Described as a teen full of optimism and dreams, Hawkins had aspirations of becoming a special education teacher. The GoFundMe campaign, which has raised over $22,500, has attracted an outpouring of support from the community, with hundreds leaving heartfelt tributes for the late teen.

The University of Hull, where Hawkins was a student, expressed shock and sadness at his untimely death.
