Police Identify Suspect in Beavercreek Walmart Shooting: Benjamin Charles Jones

Police in Beavercreek, Ohio have identified the suspect involved in a shooting at a local Walmart that left four people seriously injured. The incident occurred on November 20th, 2023, at approximately 8:36 PM. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Charles Jones of Dayton, Ohio, entered the store with a rifle and began shooting.

According to officials, the first 911 call was received at 8:36 PM, and officers were dispatched within one minute. The first two officers arrived on the scene at 8:39 PM and immediately advanced towards the threat. They located Jones, who had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, at 8:42 PM. Prior to being apprehended, Jones had shot and injured four victims, three females, and one male.

The injured victims were quickly transported to local hospitals, with three listed in stable condition and one in critical but stable condition as of 2:00 PM the following day. The Beaver Creek Fire Department provided medical assistance, and law enforcement agencies collaborated to clear the building and secure the scene.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the FBI assisting with evidence collection and analysis. The motive behind the shooting is currently unknown, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may be relevant to the investigation.

In a press conference held by city officials and law enforcement, Beaver Creek Mayor Bob Stone expressed his condolences to the victims and their families. He commended the first responders and the community’s strength in the face of adversity. Acting Police Chief Captain Chad Lindsay and Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the FBI’s Cincinnati Field Office, Zrinka Delta, also spoke at the press conference, emphasizing the ongoing investigation and the need for public assistance.
