One person killed in shooting at Beavercreek Walmart, three injured

At least one person has been killed and three others injured in a shooting at a Walmart store in Beavercreek, Ohio. The incident occurred on Monday, and the store was subsequently cleared and secured by the Beavercreek Police Department, who confirmed that there was no active threat. The Greene County Coroner’s Office also attended the scene.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations has received a request to assist in processing the scene, according to WHIO-TV. The Greene County Coroner’s Office was also present at the scene. The identities and conditions of the victims have not been released at this time.

A spokesperson for Soin Medical Center confirmed that the hospital had received three victims from the shooting, but further details about their conditions were not provided.

Walmart released a statement expressing their sadness over the incident and their cooperation with investigators. The company stated that the situation is still developing, and they are working closely with law enforcement.

This is not the first tragic incident to occur at this particular Walmart location. In 2014, John Crawford III was shot and killed by a police officer inside the store. Crawford had been carrying a pellet gun that he had picked up in the store, which was mistaken for a real firearm. The city of Beavercreek settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Crawford’s family in 2020, paying them $1.7 million.

The shooting comes at a time when gun violence in the United States is under intense scrutiny. Calls for stricter gun control measures have grown louder in recent years, fueled by numerous mass shootings and incidents of gun violence across the country.
