LAS VEGAS – Police documents suggest that some of the teenagers accused in the fatal beating of a 17-year-old high school student in Las Vegas may be affiliated with local gangs. The gangs in question include the Young Rich Team, Murder Block, and 2100 Block. The victim, Jonathan Lewis, a student at Rancho High School, was declared brain-dead on November 7, nearly a week after the attack that left him unconscious in a back alley near the school.

Arrest reports obtained by 8 News Now reveal that four teenagers, Dontral Beaver (16), Gianni Robinson (17), Damien Hernandez (17), and Treavion Randolph (16), have been charged as adults with second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit battery with substantial bodily injury. The charges were formally filed on Tuesday morning.

According to the police documents, Lewis had his wireless headphones stolen earlier in the week and believed he knew the culprit. He challenged the student to a fight and as they entered the back alley, a group of teenagers swarmed Lewis, assaulting him until he fell to the ground. The arrest report describes how they continued to punch, kick, and stomp on him.

Several witnesses captured the violent attack on their cellphones, providing evidence for the police and school administrators to identify the individuals involved. On November 2, the day after the beating, the identified students were pulled out of class and taken to different school offices, where they were interviewed by homicide detectives. The parents of two of the teenagers removed their children from the school before the detectives arrived. The remaining six students had their cell phones confiscated as evidence before being released to their parents.

While four teenagers are currently in custody, awaiting adult certification, six others were involved in the beating. One additional suspect was taken into custody recently, but the final suspect remains outstanding. Lewis’ organs were harvested on November 12, and an autopsy determined that the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries.

The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, as authorities work to bring all those responsible to justice.
