Monday’s shooting at the Beavercreek Walmart has brought back memories of a high-profile, police-involved shooting that occurred at the same store over nine years ago. The incident on August 5, 2014, resulted in the death of John Crawford III, who was shot by Beavercreek police.
The shooting occurred after a 911 caller reported seeing Crawford walking around the store with a rifle, allegedly pointing it at women and children. However, store surveillance cameras did not capture any evidence of this. It was later revealed that the rifle in question was actually a pellet gun that had been taken from an open box on a store shelf.

The surveillance footage showed two Beavercreek police officers approaching Crawford as he was talking on his cell phone. The Beavercreek Walmart has also experienced other incidents over the years. Earlier this month, the store had to close due to a fire, which was later found to be caused by two juveniles. Just last year, the store’s solar panels caught fire, leading to a lawsuit against Tesla for negligence.
