Investigation Underway After 25-Year-Old Man Shot in Fitchburg Parking Lot

Fitchburg Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place on Monday evening, after Madison officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was promptly taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

During their conversation with the victim, Madison officers deduced that the shooting likely occurred in Fitchburg, specifically in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Anton Drive. Lieutenant-Support Services Edward Hartwick from the Fitchburg Police Department expressed his concern about the incident, noting that the area is densely populated and the use of firearms is becoming distressingly common. He urged individuals with any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to come forward and assist with the investigation by contacting the Fitchburg police department or Madison Area Crime Stoppers.

Lt. Hartwick emphasized that the shooting does not appear to be a random act, as there was some form of communication between the suspect and the victim prior to the incident. However, no further details regarding the identities of the victim or the suspect were disclosed, except for the fact that they were both male.

In a startling revelation, Lt. Hartwick revealed that a stray bullet penetrated a nearby apartment where a family was present at the time. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the stray bullet.

This unfortunate incident is not an isolated one, as Lt. Hartwick highlighted that there have been multiple instances of gunfire in the general vicinity of the apartment complex over the years. It is worth noting that these incidents are typically not linked to the residents of the complex or those residing in high-density housing.

The police are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation. In a previous incident over the summer, shots were fired in the same area, with shell casings discovered near Anton Drive and Carriage Street. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported in that particular incident.
