Arrest Made in San Mateo Armed Carjacking; Victim Identified

SAN MATEO – Last week, police arrested a second suspect in an armed carjacking that occurred two months ago in San Mateo. The suspect, an 18-year-old man from Antioch, was taken into custody on November 16, according to a news release from the San Mateo Police Department on Monday.

The incident took place on September 15 around 12:15 p.m. The victim had parked his work van near the intersection of 42nd Avenue and Edison Street when two suspects parked their vehicle in front of his van. At gunpoint, they ordered him to exit the van.

One of the suspects, an 18-year-old man from Oakland, then drove off with the stolen van. However, later that same day, police officers located the van in San Francisco and initiated a pursuit. The driver was apprehended, and a loaded and unregistered handgun was discovered in his possession.

Following further investigation, detectives were able to identify the second suspect involved in the carjacking. Both suspects have been charged with carjacking and second-degree robbery. The Oakland man faces additional charges, including making criminal threats, evading, and several weapons offenses, such as carrying a loaded firearm in public.

The arrest of the second suspect brings some closure to the case, which had remained open since September. The San Mateo Police Department has commended its detectives for their diligent work in identifying and apprehending the individuals responsible for the crime.

Carjackings have been a concerning issue in the Bay Area, and law enforcement agencies have been working to combat this trend. The recent arrest serves as a reminder that the police are actively pursuing and apprehending those involved in such criminal activities.
