Lexington Ambulance Stolen and Causes Chaos on the Road
An ambulance stolen by a woman in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday night resulted in a wild joyride that endangered lives and caused significant disruption. The incident took place shortly after a patient from Wayne County was dropped off at St. Joseph East hospital.

Eyewitnesses described the terrifying moment when the stolen ambulance swerved into the bike lane, narrowly avoiding pedestrians and cyclists. Camarian Dickey, one of the witnesses, explained, “We felt a rush of air, really loud. Like a car going by. We turned around and there was an EMT swerving into the bike lane.”
The suspect, identified as Jericha Hays, allegedly ignored multiple traffic laws and nearly ran over several people during her reckless drive across Lexington. Thankfully, no one was injured, but those who witnessed the incident expressed their relief at the close call. Rowyn Moore stated, “We were pretty lucky in how close we were, how close of a call it was.”
The stolen ambulance was eventually brought to a stop at a Walmart location, where Hays was apprehended by the authorities. The incident not only took personnel away from their crucial duties but also necessitated a thorough inspection of the ambulance to ensure its safety and functionality. Sherwin Corder, a local official, lamented, “It took a crew that we desperately need out of circulation. Also an ambulance which is still drivable but it had to be taken down and inspected.”
Hays is now facing multiple charges, including wanton endangerment and theft. Meanwhile, authorities in Wayne County are taking preventative measures to avoid similar incidents in the future. The Wayne County EMS Director announced plans to install anti-theft devices on their ambulances, prioritizing the safety and security of their vehicles and the patients they transport.
