On October 31, at approximately 8 p.m., officers from the Spokane Police Department (SPD) responded to a dog attack near East Walton Avenue and North Nevada Street. Upon arrival, they discovered that a small child, identified as Colton Michael Kline, had been attacked by the family’s dog.

Despite the immediate medical attention provided by first responders, the child unfortunately did not survive the attack.

Previously, the SPD stated that no criminality was involved, classifying the incident as a tragic accident unrelated to Halloween activities.

However, new court documents reveal that the dog belonged to 48-year-old Dustin Block, who is currently being held in Spokane County Jail for violating the terms of his release. Block was already facing charges of voyeurism and possession of child pornography and was not permitted to have contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Fifteen days after the incident, the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant for Block’s arrest for violating the terms of his release. The warrant alleges that Block had contact with Kline, violating the conditions of his release.

Block remains in custody with a bond set at $100,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, and his trial is set for December 11.

Colton’s mother, Payton Vens, expressed her devastation upon learning about the charges against Block. She stated that had she been aware, her son would never have been in Block’s presence. Vens hopes that Block will face the full extent of the law.

The grieving family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses. Those who wish to donate can find the link on the FOX28 Spokane website.

The tragic incident has deeply affected the Spokane community, and Vens urges everyone to join her in seeking justice for Colton, emphasizing that he did not deserve such a fate.
