Jilted lover opens fire, killing three members of a family in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district

Three members of a family were tragically shot dead and three others were injured in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district on Monday. The incident occurred when a jilted lover opened fire at them in the Punjabi locality of Lakhisarai town. The victims, who were returning home after offering morning ‘arghya’ to the Sun at a local pond, were ambushed by the assailant.

Two individuals died at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries en route to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Shockingly, the girl whom the perpetrator, Ashish Choudhary, wanted to marry also lost her life in the firing. This harrowing incident quickly spread throughout the area, prompting a large crowd to gather at the victims’ house. Choudhary, who was a neighbor of the deceased, has since gone into hiding.

In response to the incident, the Lakhisarai superintendent of police, Pankaj Kumar, has deployed a police team to the area as a precautionary measure. Three suspects have been detained for interrogation in connection with the incident. Initial investigations suggest that the motive behind the shooting was a love affair gone wrong.

It has been revealed that Choudhary had previously had an altercation with the girl’s family approximately ten days ago. The matter appeared to be resolved with the intervention of local residents. However, on Monday, Choudhary launched a brutal attack on the girl and her family members as they were returning home from ‘Chhath ghat’.

“The youth was insisting on marrying the girl against the wishes of her family,” added Superintendent Kumar.

The victims have been identified as Durga Kumari, Rajnandan Jha, and Chandan Jha, who were brothers. Shahshibhushan Jha, his wife Priti Devi, and another relative, Lovely Jha, are currently receiving treatment at PMCH for their injuries.

This shocking incident highlights the devastating consequences that can arise from unresolved conflicts and the dangerous lengths some individuals may go to when their desires are not fulfilled. The community is left mourning the loss of innocent lives and demanding justice for the victims.
