Elderly Man Killed in Bus Accident in Munshiganj
An elderly man lost his life after being hit by a bus that lost control and fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Munshiganj’s Gazaria upazila today. The accident occurred around 8:30 am when the bus veered off the road and struck the man, identified as Abdur Rob, 65. He died on the spot, according to Humayun Kabir, Gazaria highway police in-charge.

The bus, belonging to Jainpur Paribahan and carrying twenty passengers from Cumilla to Dhaka, also injured several people in the accident. Gazaria Upazila Fire Service Station Officer Rifat Mallik reported that some of the injured were in critical condition and were rushed to Dhaka for treatment. The rest are currently receiving treatment at the Gazaria Health Complex.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described the chaotic scene as the bus lost control and hit the elderly man before veering off the road. The incident caused a major traffic jam on the busy highway, as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and assist the injured.
Road accidents are unfortunately common in Bangladesh, with poorly maintained vehicles, reckless driving, and inadequate road safety measures being major contributing factors.
