The decaying bodies of four family members have been discovered in their flat in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India. The bodies were found after neighbors alerted the police to a foul smell emanating from the apartment. The victims have been identified as Brindaban Karmakar, a 52-year-old cloth merchant, his wife Debasree Karmakar, their 17-year-old daughter, and their eight-year-old son.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Brindaban Karmakar poisoned his family members before taking his own life. When the police arrived at the scene, they found Karmakar’s body hanging from the ceiling, while the other three bodies were discovered in different parts of the apartment. A suicide note was also found, in which Karmakar alleged that his wife had been involved in an extramarital affair, leading him to commit this act.

The incident came to light when a pump operator from the apartment complex went to Karmakar’s flat to retrieve some keys. Despite repeatedly ringing the doorbell, there was no response. The operator then noticed a foul smell and informed the local councillor, who subsequently contacted the police. Upon breaking open the door, the authorities discovered the four bodies.
A local Trinamool Congress leader, who had met the family the day after Kali Puja, expressed shock at the incident and stated that he was unaware of the reason behind the murders. The forensic team has visited the scene, and further investigation is underway.
This tragic event has left the neighborhood in shock, with residents struggling to comprehend the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The authorities are working to gather more information and determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.
