Berbice Woman Daniele Charles Allegedly Raped, Murdered After Leaving Bar – Nude Body Found in Bushes with 10 Stab Wounds

In a tragic incident in Berbice, Guyana, a woman was allegedly raped and murdered after leaving a bar. The nude body of 48-year-old Daniele Charles, a labourer employed with NDC Drainage and Irrigation Department, was discovered on a vacant plot of land in Experiment New Housing Scheme, West Coast Berbice. According to reports, the police received information about a woman’s body in a clump of bushes at the housing scheme. When they arrived at the scene, they found Charles’ naked body with 10 stab wounds.

The police also found a multi-coloured top with bloodstains, a pair of three-quarter denim pants, a bra, and underwear next to the body. The pants, bra, and underwear had been cut open. A used condom and wrapper were found near the woman’s feet, and wrapped-up tissues were found between her legs.

Charles was last seen consuming alcohol at a popular bar in Bath Settlement with her relatives and friends. Her relatives left the bar, leaving her with her friends. Charles’ son, Yeukini Joseph, stated that his mother called him at around 3:23 am on Sunday morning. The call got disconnected, and when he tried calling her back, her phone was turned off. He mentioned that the background was quiet during the call, indicating that his mother had already left the bar.

The community where the body was found is shocked and concerned about the brutal murder. Residents expressed their fear and lack of safety in the area. They have called on the police to visit the community and address their concerns.

This incident comes at a time when the Guyana Police Force has reported an increase in the number of murders in the country. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum stated that there have been 133 murders so far this year, compared to 108 during the same period last year. He expressed concern about disorderly killings and domestic-related murders, which have seen a significant increase.

The police are currently investigating the rape and murder of Daniele Charles and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The community is on high alert and hopes that justice will be served for Charles and her grieving family.
