78-Year-Old Badharudheen Dies Following Assault by Manoj Shahu

Kochi: A 29-year-old migrant worker from Bihar named Manoj Shahu may face murder charges in Kerala after a 78-year-old man, who had been receiving treatment following an assault by the worker, passed away on Monday morning.

The deceased, identified as Badharudheen from Chowara near Aluva, was allegedly attacked by Shahu during a robbery attempt on August 7 at around 11:30 p.m. Shahu reportedly entered the victim’s house and used a wooden rod to assault him while he was asleep.

Badharudheen suffered severe fractures in his jaw and head and was admitted to Amrita Hospital. He had recently been discharged from the hospital. He was an ex-serviceman and had worked as a security guard at the public sector telecom company BSNL.

The police are currently awaiting the medical report to determine whether the assault directly caused the death of the elderly man.

“The migrant worker is already in custody. Despite being 78 years old, the victim was in good health. However, his condition deteriorated after the assault by the worker,” said the Nedumbassery police, where the case has been registered.

The authorities will rely on the medical and autopsy reports to establish the cause of death. If the assault is proven to be the direct cause of death, the accused will face murder charges.
