76-Year-Old Man Arrested for Raping and Impregnating 16-Year-Old Girl in Abeokuta
A 76-year-old man named David Ogunsanwo has been apprehended in Abeokuta, Nigeria for the alleged rape and impregnation of a 16-year-old girl. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested the septuagenarian over the weekend, according to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun, Adijat Adeleye. Adeleye, who confirmed the arrest, expressed her determination to ensure that justice is served for the victim.

The arrest of Ogunsanwo was made possible by the Community Development Initiatives located at Ajisebutu House, Oba Adenaiya Street, Itamarun in Ijebu Imusin. This initiative is led by the Executive Director, Igbodipe Olumide Fidelis. After conducting investigations, it was discovered that the young girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, was already five months pregnant. This revelation has raised concerns about the alarming rate of sexual abuse in the country.
Adeleye emphasized the importance of victims speaking up and urged parents to stop withdrawing rape cases from the legal system. She stated that reporting violations to the police and pursuing justice is crucial, as withdrawing cases only encourages perpetrators to continue their crimes. Adeleye added that collective action and a unified stance against such despicable acts are necessary to safeguard children and bring perpetrators to justice.
