Ghost Tour Company to Purchase Infamous Villisca Axe Murder House
A popular ghost tour company, US Ghost Adventures, has announced its plans to acquire the Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa. The house gained notoriety due to a gruesome incident in the 1910s when a family of six and their two visitors were brutally bludgeoned to death while they slept. The murders remain unsolved to this day.

US Ghost Adventures, known for organizing ghost tours and overnight stays at haunted locations, sees the Villisca Axe Murder House as a valuable addition to their portfolio. This will be the company’s third haunted location available for tours and overnight stays.
The Villisca axe murders took place overnight on June 9, 1912, and have since become one of the most heinous crimes in Iowa’s history. Despite extensive investigations, including grand jury hearings, a slander lawsuit, and a murder trial, the case remains open, according to the Iowa Cold Cases blog.
The victims of the Villisca axe murders were Josiah and Sarah Moore, their four children, and two visiting girls. Josiah was a prominent businessman and well-respected member of the community. The children were identified as Herman Moore, 11; Katherine Moore, 10; Boyd Moore, 7; and Paul Moore, 5. The visiting girls, Lena Stillinger, 12, and Ina Stillinger, 8, were the daughters of a wealthy local farmer.
The killer, or killers, used an axe found in the family’s backyard to carry out the brutal murders sometime after midnight while the family slept. The Moores had returned home from an evening program at the local Presbyterian Church.

US Ghost Adventures plans to offer overnight stays at the Villisca Axe Murder House starting in January. Interested individuals can book their stay, which lasts from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., for a starting price of $500.
The acquisition of this infamous house by US Ghost Adventures has sparked renewed interest in the chilling unsolved case. It remains to be seen whether any new clues or insights will emerge from the company’s activities at the Villisca Axe Murder House.
