A man in Downtown Las Vegas has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing another man. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect, Shawndell Byrant, claimed that he killed the victim because the victim had robbed him. The incident occurred on October 22 at around 5 p.m. when multiple 911 callers reported a shooting at the intersection of 3rd Street and Utah Avenue.

When officers and medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as William Gray, with a gunshot wound to the head. Medical personnel pronounced him dead on the spot. Surveillance video from a nearby business captured two suspects jaywalking across Las Vegas Boulevard near Utah Avenue. Byrant was identified as one of the suspects.

The footage showed Gray walking past Byrant and the other suspect before engaging in a conversation. Suddenly, Gray fell to the ground, and Byrant bent over to take something from his hand. The second suspect then fled the scene, followed by Byrant. Additional surveillance video from a nearby building revealed that Byrant and the other suspect entered an apartment and left in an Uber about 10 minutes later.

Officers later found Byrant’s girlfriend at the apartment, who informed them that Byrant had called her at around 5 p.m. asking her to leave with him in an Uber. However, she refused, and when she returned to the apartment, Byrant had already left. A witness reported overhearing a man earlier in the area who was upset and looking for a person named Will, claiming that Will had robbed him. The witness stated that he was not surprised that Gray was shot, as Gray was known in the streets as a deceitful drug dealer.

Gray’s girlfriend also informed the police that they had been threatened by two men who had a problem with Gray. She recorded a video of an incident on October 18 where Byrant can be heard threatening to return. Byrant was arrested on November 1 at an apartment and is currently facing charges of open murder and DUI. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 20.
