53-Year-Old Man Dies in Industrial Accident at Former Sugar Plant in Tracy, California
TRACY, CA (November 10, 2023) – A tragic workplace accident at the former Holly Sugar Plant in Tracy, California, resulted in the death of 53-year-old Dean Melavic. The incident occurred on Sunday night, prompting emergency units from the South San Joaquin County Fire to respond to the plant located on Holly Drive’s 20500 block.

According to reports, Melavic fell into a large silo within the facility, plunging approximately 80 feet into the machinery. A team of sixteen individuals, aided by a rope pulley system, worked tirelessly to retrieve his body from the silo. Despite their efforts, Melavic was pronounced dead at the scene by the San Joaquin Medical Examiner.
