A tragic incident took place in Jalandhar’s Satnam Nagar on Friday afternoon when a gas cylinder exploded in a house, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old man and his teenage son. The man’s wife also suffered critical burn injuries in the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Harpal Singh and his 17-year-old son, Jobanjit Singh. Harpal’s wife, Manjit Kaur, is currently receiving treatment for her burn injuries. The family is known to be involved in the manufacturing of rubber-based weight training plates.

After the cylinder explosion, the rubber material stored in the house caught fire, trapping the family inside. Fortunately, they were rescued by locals and the fire brigade. However, Harpal and his son could not survive and were declared brought dead at the local civil hospital.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nirmal Singh, mentioned that forensic teams have collected samples from the scene to determine the exact cause of the cylinder explosion. Unfortunately, this is the second incident of its kind in the district within a month. On October 8, a family in Jalandhar’s Anand Nagar lost their lives after the compressor of their refrigerator exploded.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with gas cylinders and the need for caution while handling them. Authorities are urging residents to ensure proper maintenance of gas cylinders and to be aware of safety protocols to prevent such incidents.
The local community has expressed their condolences to the grieving family and offered support to Manjit Kaur during her recovery. The incident is a tragic reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety measures to avoid such devastating accidents in the future.
