41-year-old Harpreet Uppal, Father of Deceased Boy Killed in Gang-Related Shooting

By | November 10, 2023

“The landscape has changed out there,” said Edmonton Police Chief, Brian Derksen, in response to the recent increase in gang violence in the city. Derksen expressed his concern over the lack of respect for children, families, and innocent citizens among gangsters who carry out violent acts to further their own interests.

The latest incident, which occurred on Thursday, resulted in the death of a young boy whose name has not been released. However, his father, Harpreet Uppal, a well-known figure in the gang drug world, has been identified. Derksen revealed that the police had been working tirelessly over the years to try and persuade Uppal to leave his dangerous lifestyle and ensure the safety of his family. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain.

This is not the first time Uppal has been targeted. Two years ago, there was an attempt on his life at a pizza restaurant. The police are currently investigating any possible links between Thursday’s shooting and a burned-out SUV found nearby, although the vehicle was unoccupied.

Gang violence in public places has been on the rise in Edmonton in recent years. Derksen stated that the police have already responded to 196 shootings this year alone, a 46% increase compared to the same period last year. While these shootings are usually gang-related, they pose a significant risk to innocent bystanders.

“We’re lucky we’re not reporting on additional deaths or injuries today,” said Derksen, emphasizing the potential danger faced by the public. He noted with alarm that the shooting took place near a daycare, highlighting the need for immediate action to address the escalating violence.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The police are continuing their investigation to identify the culprits responsible for the young boy’s death and bring them to justice.
