SANDY, Utah — A 16-year-old boy has died on Friday morning after being involved in a police shooting in Sandy the previous day.
The incident began when authorities received a report of a suspicious vehicle being driven in the Sandy area. It was later discovered that the vehicle had been stolen, prompting the police to pursue it from a distance without engaging their flashing lights and sirens.

Upon realizing he was being followed, the driver, identified as a 16-year-old boy, attempted to evade the officers. As he tried to escape, he drove into oncoming traffic and collided with a motorcyclist near Monroe Street and 90th South.
Despite the crash, the teen continued to flee from the authorities until he reached a dead end. It was at this point that shots were fired by the police, according to officials from FOX 13 News. The teenager was subsequently taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning.
The motorcyclist involved in the collision was also transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
The Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol team is currently investigating the situation, but no further details have been provided about the number of officers involved or the exact number of shots fired.
