The previously unknown remains found in 1996 at the former home of Herb Baumeister, a suspected serial killer, have been identified as Allen Livingston. Livingston was reported missing in 1993. The identification was made possible through collaborative efforts of forensic experts.
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office in Indiana has recently identified the remains of a previously unknown person that were recovered in 1996 from a Westfield home. The property, known as Fox Hollow Farm, was once owned by Herb Baumeister, a man suspected of luring gay men to the area before killing them.
The remains found in the home were matched with a family reference sample that was submitted in late 2022, and the individual was identified as Allen Livingston. Livingston had been reported missing to the Indianapolis Police Department in 1993. This identification was the result of collaborative efforts by forensic experts working to identify the approximately 10,000 human remains recovered from Fox Hollow Farm.
The case began in June 1996 when Baumeister’s son discovered bones on the family’s 18-acre estate. This discovery led to an investigation that eventually identified Baumeister as a serial killer who targeted young men. Baumeister died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Toronto less than two weeks after the discovery, and as a result, the case was never tried in court.
Prior reports had connected Baumeister to the deaths of young gay men or male prostitutes missing from Indianapolis, and these reports came to light shortly after his death.
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office expressed gratitude to the law enforcement and forensic specialists who worked on this identification, particularly the Indiana State Police laboratory for their expertise in DNA analysis.
