The victim has been identified as Darrell Walker, a 47-year-old resident of Atlanta. The Metro Nashville Police Department has been investigating the incident and has released some details surrounding the incident.
According to the police, the altercation began when Perry Shannon, a 50-year-old individual, was inside the Northwest Liquors store on Buchanan Street. It was during this time that Shannon was confronted by a shirtless man, who initiated the confrontation. The situation quickly spiraled out of control as the confrontational individual started physically attacking Shannon. As the situation unfolded, Darrell Walker stepped in to try and intervene.
Unfortunately, Walker was knocked to the ground by one of the shirtless man’s punches, leaving him lying in the parking lot. In a shocking turn of events, Shannon, attempting to leave the scene with the shirtless man still clinging to his SUV, unintentionally ran over Walker. The shirtless man, realizing the severity of the situation, let go of the vehicle and fled the scene.
Walker was immediately rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, police are actively working to identify the shirtless man and are expected to press charges against him. As for Shannon, he initially left the scene but later returned. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Shannon had an unrelated outstanding warrant, resulting in his arrest for driving on a revoked license and not having insurance.
