Prof. Swaminathan was born on August 7, 1925, in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. He completed his education at the prestigious Madras Agricultural College, and later pursued a Ph.D. in genetics and plant breeding from the University of Cambridge, UK. He dedicated his life to agricultural research and development, with a particular focus on improving crop yields and ensuring food security for India’s vast population.
