DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — A dramatic police pursuit that began in Wake County and ended in Durham resulted in the arrest of a man on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Eric Reid, was apprehended after a high-speed chase that kept law enforcement officers on their toes.
According to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started when a deputy attempted to pull over a driver in a black Dodge Charger on I-440 around 11 a.m. The driver, however, chose to evade the deputy and initiated a dangerous pursuit into Durham County. The suspect’s reckless actions put both himself and others on the road at risk.
As the chase continued, the driver eventually brought the vehicle to a halt in a residential neighborhood in Durham. Desperate to escape, the suspect and two passengers hastily exited the car and attempted to flee on foot. The situation escalated, requiring the assistance of Durham police officers and state troopers to track down the three individuals.
Law enforcement personnel successfully located and apprehended the driver and his accomplices a short while later on Whitesell Way. Reid, the primary suspect, now faces multiple charges, including one count of felony flee to elude, speeding, and reckless driving to endanger. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to uncover any other potential offenses.
