A man from Twin Lake, Michigan, was killed in a car and semi-truck collision in Wagner, South Dakota. The man, Robert Kozik, was driving south on S.D. Highway 50 when he was hit by a semi-truck. Kozik was ejected from his vehicle and died from his injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured. The crash is currently under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. WAGNER, S.D. — The tragic incident involving a car and a semi-truck that occurred two miles west of Wagner on Tuesday, August 29, has claimed the life of a 68-year-old man from Twin Lake, Michigan. The victim has been identified as Robert Kozik.

According to preliminary crash reports from the Department of Public Safety, the incident unfolded when Kozik, driving his 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan, was heading south on S.D. Highway 50. Kozik came to a stop at the intersection where SD 50 meets SD 46. After assessing the situation, he proceeded to turn onto SD 46. Unfortunately, at the same time, a 2019 Peterbilt Semi tractor-trailer, traveling westbound on SD 46, was approaching the intersection without a stop sign.

Tragically, the semi-truck collided with Kozik’s vehicle, propelling it into the north ditch and causing Kozik to be ejected from the van. It is worth noting that Kozik was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene and transported Kozik via ambulance to Wagner Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck, identified as Wayne Fiebelkorn, 47, emerged from the collision unharmed. Fiebelkorn was wearing his seat belt, which played a crucial role in safeguarding him during the accident.
